Our Story

The Dream
Years ago, we had a question, how can we be apart of the change happening in Detroit?
Shortly after an accident being able to sit down and think, I found myself brainstorming the solution to that question. I would constantly think of a way to be apart of the positivity happening in Detroit. I felt like the clothing design culture at the time was really lacking in this area, and apparently this sensibility connected with many people all around Detroit.
What started as an entrepreneurial experiment and outlet for the passion of our city quickly grew into much more than just selling a few shirts.

That was March 2017. There was just one design and a desire to succeed. Things accelerated quickly and all of a sudden, Proud Detroiter was being featured on blogs, radio, news and various social media influencers pages and sales started rolling in from all around the country. The response to the first design were really well received, and before we knew it, we found a way to create new designs in collaborations with other businesses and different color and texture patterns.
We decided to keep going.
Then things really took off with the opening of our store. We have special events which bring entertainers and also customers wanting to purchase from around the country

Going Full-Time
Through the first year, we continued to build Proud Detroiter by working late nights and weekends to refine designs, organize logistics, and pack orders. Each new release received an enthusiastic response from the community, and knowledge of the brand spread organically through word of mouth and online features. Our dream of being a part of the change of Detroit was no longer just a dream.
Our vision is to share our passion for Detroit by creating a unique brand of apparel and accessories featuring cool designs that represent all Detroiters. More than just a clothing brand, PROUD DETROITER is a lifestyle. People don’t just wear PROUD DETROITER, they identify with our message.
Detroit has a storied past- one that includes successes and failures of epic proportions. The owner of Proud Detroiter , Robert has parents who moved to Detroit nearly 50 years ago in pursuit of better opportunities – back when Detroit was simply known for being the Motor City and home to Motown Records.
As a life-long Detroiters, we have witnessed the city at its best and worst, but one thing that always rings true, is Detroit’s ability to bounce back and turn tragedy into triumph. Our city’s flag includes the sayings: ”We hope for better things” and “It will rise from the ashes.” I believe that reflects the mind state of Detroiters and the pride we have in our city.
